Cold Turkey

Agon Limited, the commercial interface of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) has finally announced the venue for the eight-player Candidates Tournament to be held from 9 to 28 March 2018. It will be the Kühlhaus Berlin at Luckenwalder Straße 3, 10963 Berlin, Germany, a seven-floor building with a long story behind it. The Kühlhaus was originally build at the end of the 19th century and, as its name (ice house) implies, it served as a place to keep fresh foods cool. Then it barely survived the World War II years and its subsequent decadence until the early 1990s, when the city administration decided to restore and convert it into a monumental open space designed to host art exhibitions, concerts, shows, happenings, and cultural events of any kind. We have no doubt that the scenic representation on stage will be worthy of Agon Limited CEO Ilya Lvovich Merenzon’s renowned “Gothic imaginary reality”. As usual, EG Capital Advisors, Kapersky Lab, S.T. Dupont, and Isklar will sponsor the primaries, and as usual the show will be accessible through tickets (physical reality) and pay-per-view online coverage (metaphysical reality). The names of participants who will take part is not yet announced officially, except for Sergey Alexandrovich Karjakin, Levon Grigori Aronian, and 丁立人 (Dīng Lìrén). Five names are still missing, but will be announced pretty soon: two from the Grand Prix, two by official rating, and only one wild card.
So don’t forget to shuffle the cards!
